Mike & Dan Workshop Tonight

National swing band stops in Columbus April 18

Our first live band at Nyoh’s – we’re really excited!  Cover charge will be a little higher than usual ($8) to pay the band.  (We’ll still have the 7:30 lesson included with cover.)

The Solomon Douglas quartet has played at countless exchanges, camps, workshops, and other events in North America, Asia, and Australia since 2000.  Solomon’s experience as a swing dancer and dance instructor gives him an understanding unique among musicians of the music that swing dancers and blues dancers like to dance to!

Guest instructors Mike ‘the girl’ Legett and Dan Rosenthal

Two fantastic instructors will be temporary residents of Columbus!  Mike ‘the girl’ Legett and Dan Rosenthal will be teaching workshops on March 29th (Lindy Hop partnering) and April 5th (Drag Blues) and will also be available for private lessons around that time.  We strongly encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities!   Class size is limited by our venue – pre-registration strongly encouraged.

You can pre-register for workshops on our website, and for private lessons contact them directly to express your interest and arrange a time (mike@livinghistorydance.com).

Dancers Welcomed at Ed Polcer Concert March 25th (pics)

Cornetist Ed Polcer flew in from New York City to play a great concert with some fantastic Ohio musicians for the Central Ohio Hot Jazz Society last Sunday.  Ed is a living legend and played with greats such as Benny Goodman.  He is very excited about the Lindy Hop community that he has seen in NYC and New Orleans, where his son Ben Polcer plays trumpet with many well known acts such as Meschiya Lake and the Little Big Horns.

Dancers from SwingColumbus put on quite a show, dancing The Big Apple and following the band around the floor for a traditional New Orleans ‘second line’.  Ed took the time to thank the dancers personally and from the stage for our role in bringing energy to the musicians and keeping classic jazz alive and appreciated.   Pictures of the concert can be seen on the COHJS Facebook gallery page.  The next COHJS concert is Sunday, April 22nd with Ragtime Rick’s Chefs of Dixieland (Toledo, Ohio) and dancers are always welcome.
