You are invited to audition for the competitive Team SwingColumbus, a local lindy hop tradition since 2007!
Watch Team SwingColumbus through the years, starting with our most recent performance at the Dayton Swing Smackdown “Battle of the Swing Cities” performance, to get an idea of how we strut our stuff!
Audition Details
You only need to attend ONE audition date to try out.

- Do you regularly dance lindy hop and take classes or attend workshops to improve your skills?
- Do you want to work with other growing dancers in the Columbus scene on technique and performance skills?
- Do you want to be a part of a team putting together a fun, energetic performance? See past team performances by searching for the SwingColumbus channel on YouTube.
- Can you commit to a regular practice schedule? Please read the schedule details below for necessary commitment.

We have spots available for both performers and apprentice roles on the team. The number of dancers selected is not predetermined and will depend on factors including lead/follow balance, dancing skills, and performance abilities.
Auditions will include learning and small-group performance of short pieces of lindy hop and solo jazz choreography as well as social partner dancing. No partner is required for auditions.
Team Expectations
Team Practice Schedule
Team SwingColumbus is a competition dance team that practices in January and February to prepare a choreographed performance at the Dayton Swing Smackdown “Battle of the Swing Cities.” Team practices will be held from January 3rd to February 23rd, every:
- Sundays // 4 PM – 8 PM
- Wednesdays // 7 PM – 9 PM
Team members are required to attend nearly all practices during team season and to attend the Dayton Swing Smackdown on February 23rd for competition. Please check that your schedule does not have significant conflicts with the times above before committing to participate in the team.
Costs to Participate
Participating in the team, like any adult sport, is voluntary and does have costs. Those costs include:
- $25/month team dues to help cover cost of practice room rental coming to a total of $50. (January & February)
- Cost of ticket to Dayton Swing Smackdown
- Cost of performance costume, including shoes. Efforts are made to keep costume costs as low as possible.
- All team members are required to become members of SwingColumbus.

Compensation
No team leaders or choreographers are compensated for their work with the team. Everyone volunteers their time and skill.
