November 26th // Live Band Dance Party with Beginner Lessons

John Vermeulen Swing Orchestra will be playing on Swingin’ Tuesdays on November 26th for SwingColumbus Bands-giving! Come dance with us to some great vintage music!

No partner? No problem! We’ll rotate regularly in class so you have a chance to try what you’ve learned with many different dancers.

Friendly reminder to all dancers that for safety reasons, SwingColumbus does not permit aerials, also known as air steps or throwing one’s partner so their feet leave the ground. Watch out for each other on the dance floor.

All event updates will be on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/426925311562427/

Don’t forget about our Big Apple crash course! If we have enough people, join our veteran dancers in a Big Apple celebration.

Hulk Hogan can dance.

So can a Smurf, the rapper Macklemore and Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz.”

All have been spotted jiving to traditional jazz and swing music at past editions of the SwingColumbus Halloween party, which will take place on Tuesday this year. Dancing veterans and newcomers alike are encouraged to dress in costume, but never fear — lessons are available before the group dance for those without experience.

“For anyone who says they may have two left feet or is hesitant to try dancing for the first time, this is the perfect lesson to get started,” said Mark Calkins, music coordinator of SwingColumbus.

Although most swing dances focus on classics by big-band leaders such as Chick Webb and crooners such as Frank Sinatra, the Halloween dance will include out-of-genre selections such as “Monster Mash,” in addition to classics such as Sinatra’s “Witchcraft” and Lionel Hampton’s “Lavender Coffin.”

A costume stroll also is on the schedule for those who wish to strut their stuff.

Be prepared to switch dance partners often! We’re a social dance club and the best way to work on your social dancing is to learn how to connect with different dancer styles and levels of experience.

All About Our Swingin’ Tuesdays

  • We rotate several DJs so the music is never stale.
  • We host a beginner East Coast Swing dance lesson from 7:30 – 8 PM.
  • No partner necessary! We change partners during the lesson for lots of practice.

Our dance floor can get crowded, so please watch out when attempting aerials and low dips.

Please cooperate if we have to ask you to wait until later in the night when the floor clears so you have space for your special moves.
