Party like it’s 1939 by joining SwingColumbus every Wednesday at Nyoh’s. Group members teach beginners the “East Coast Swing” early in the evening. The rest of the time is filled with swing and blues partner dances.

Feeling confident in your steps? Dancers can join SwingColumbus for $45 a month, which includes a dance from 8 p.m. to midnight on the third Saturday of every month at the Downtown YWCA.

Caitlin Martin, 26, of the Clintonville neighborhood, joined the group earlier this year after discovering it at Nyoh’s. Apprehensive at first, Martin said she fell in love with the dance style and enjoys the welcoming environment.

Gail Clendenin, president of SwingColumbus, said the group welcomes members from 18 to 80. She recommended that new dancers wear comfortable shoes that won’t fly off during a kick. And vintage clothes add to the atmosphere.
