These 3-week lesson series are held on Thursdays, running from November6 thru November 20.

  • Big Apple Lesson Series: 7: 30 PM – 8:30 PM
Mark Calkins and Shannon Varner will teach you how to dance The Big Apple! Choreographed by Frankie Manning in 1937, this solo dance is filled with high energy charleston movements and intricate jazz steps. Not only is it danced here in Columbus on occasion, but you are guaranteed to see it at most big swing dance events around the world! But don’t let that intimidate you: Mark and Shannon will be breaking the routine down into three parts- each taught in an hour during the intermediate time block at 7:30. The instruction is geared toward dancers who are learning or want to learn to solo dance and are interested in learning choreography.
  • Partnered Charleston Lesson Series: 8:30 – 9:30 PM
Join Mark Calkins and Shannon Varner to learn Charleston, a vintage dance that answers the question, “What do I do when the music is too fast to lindy hop?” This 3-week series is for anyone who wants to learn Charleston for the first time or review partnered Charleston and the fundamental lead and follow connection for the dance.
